Toy 17 Key Accordian Review

Toy 17 Key Accordian
Average Reviews:

Although the carrying case is not very practical (it's a cardboard box, to be frank), this is a great little instrument that is good not only for kids, but for adults who are begginers at the accordion. It was good for me to have such a small model to begin with, so that that way I could get used to the feel of the accordion without being overwhelmed by all the buttons. I've since progressed to a full-sized accordion, but this instrument made it a very smooth transition.

My wife bought this because she'd complained that when she accompanied a choir in a darkened church, she couldn't see the music. She said that this product made all the difference and she was delighted by it. High praise, indeed.

I found that this light is perfect for a music stand during a performance. Better yet it works great if you have a Kindle from Amazon. It attaches to the top of the Kindle and gives off enough light to see only using one of the arms. Being able to adjust the arms cuts any kind of glare that shows up. A GREAT BUY!!!

OSP AP30 30 Watt Digital Drum Amplifier Review

OSP AP30 30 Watt Digital Drum Amplifier

When I first set this up on the E.drum set I was really.. really disappointed. It was simply not loud enough. I had already ordered a new drum brain as I was not happy with the current one...
New drum brain.... AMP WAS KICKING. I had to throttle it back to keep the windows from shaking. This is the perfect match for a good electronic drum set. I play at home with my sons and there is no doubt you can hear the drums over my guitar and my other son's bass.
This won't go to "11". But for home use "4" may be just enough!

Suzuki Cello School CD, Volume 1 & 2 - CD Review

Suzuki Cello School CD, Volume 1 and 2 - CD
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I bought this to use along with my Suzuki music book for cello. I'm an adult learning to play for the first time and thought that by hearing it played properly, I could then accurately mimic.
I only give it a "3" because the piano plays so loudly over the cello that you can hear it sometimes and you miss subtle nuances that would be nice for a beginner to hear.
Also, it's JUST the music from the book it goes with. There's no instruction or "teacher" on it.

Steinway Virtual Concert Grand Professional Version - C Review

Steinway Virtual Concert Grand Professional Version - C
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
(Note: I wrote this about the Pro Version in the Basic product review but I noticed there is the Pro version on Amazon, so I am going to repeat it with slight editing.)
I noticed this product last year. I recently purchased the Pro version and it is a real hoot! I remember being frustrated last year as it was announced and months later there was still no release. I then really forgot about it.
It came to my attention recently and found it was available so I purchased this full version that has the 24 bit samples. I have ran both 24 bit and the Pro version "high quality" 16 bit versions and I am not sure after listening the short amount that I have it IF there is any material difference. BOTH are quite impressive.
I was going to buy a 10,000 RPM hard drive for my Icy Dock Sata, Firewire 800 enclosure (these are VERY sweet because they, different hard drives, just slide and snap-in, taking seconds and you just buy accessary trays that you can use as many hard drives you have as long as they are compatible like SATA) but I found my 7200 external quite nice and effective, a Western Digital, for the 24 bit samples going USBII into my 2.2GHz, Macbook Pro.
Earlier, I changed my Macbook Pro (laptop) hard drive to one of those Momentus 7200 RPM drives so the minimum requirements of the Garritan Steinway to run on a 7200 RPM are there actually, *inside* the laptop without an external.
So I tried it. I ran the laptop having the samples on the *internal* using a Firewire 800 connection to an RME Fireface 800 rack acting as my sound-card. Worked GREAT! right from my laptop!!! (with no external drive). HOWEVER, after playing for about an hour or so, the program crashed. (not the laptop, obviously it's a MAC!!). I suspect that it was system file interference, OR one would have to disconnect Airport temporarily to run the Steinway samples direct from the Macbook Pro. I will play with that later, while in the meantime, I am running the 24 bit samples from the Icy Dock with no issues.
The first thing I noticed with playing the Garritan Steinway is the 'singing' capability of the 'instrument'. I am currently using a Yamaha graded action (P80). I should add that the touch of 'hard' 'soft' etc work on the actual P80 and surely other digital pianos to the Garritan for different players' choices since it is adjusting the midi-out velocities though obviously, this can be controlled via the software. Singing notes of the strings or selected tones that are struck harder just stand out with it's dynamic range, something I only perceived at this level by playing a actual acoustic grand. The tone is sweet and not artificial. It is warm and addicting to play and if you intend to play for only a few minutes you will likely get up an hour later.
This software will get you back practicing. You will not tire of the quality like another version of your hardware, digital piano comes out 3 to 6 months later that you wish you waited to buy. The instrument if you look up on the forums is worked on profusely for upgrades by the developer(s). It IS a sampled piano but offers the versatility of having some DSP programming to add and tweak to your desired sound the peripheral tones of the instrument. Hammond actually did this with organ to bring out a new B3. They combined samples with modeling as a hybrid to get just about the EXACT sound in the recent model vintages but tweakable. This was called VASEIII though surely not on the same model parameters as the Garritan but the concept is the same.
The Pro version has 5 perspectives. You need to try them all to find out which one is 'you', having the ability to change to another perspective (mic positions with 5 sets of samples) for a change-up or for a targeting sound for a certain tune or location where you are playing.
For *loud* bands that want to use this: the dynamic range may be a problem for cut. The solution has been to use on the 'loud band' stage a compressor, it would seem. The best compressor methods, imo, have been the upward compression available with some compression software that does not effect the attack or the envelope of the struck string. Using compression, the tone with a lower dynamic range can hang longer, cut through the mix, before it decays (not as realistic but can improve the piano-cut with loud music, as I said, where you really cannot hear the fine nuances of an accurate emulation and sympathetic sounds).
For my playing, I see no need for this. Can't see that compression would be necessary for moderate band volumes either.
This software is really a great gift to the digital piano world, in my view. Garritan should be congratulated as I suspect this has been and still is, quite a 'life event' struggle to get this right from start to finish. These Garritan Authorized Steinway packages are a phenomenal deal to get the REAL sound to those of us who cannot affort the real-deal. Does it replace the real Model D Steinway? No. But it is sure fun to play something this close.

Blue Microphones Bluebird Cardioid Condenser Mic Review

Blue Microphones Bluebird Cardioid Condenser Mic
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This microphone sounds very good on everything I've tried it on. Running the mic through a DBX 376 mic pre, I was able to get some great vocals. Though to get a good amount of clarity on the consonants I did have to ask the singer to back up about six inches from the mic. Being close in, the mic just didn't pick up the T and S sounds. With that adjustment, the mic did a good job on vocals ending up with takes the singer and I were both happy with. It didn't blow me away, but it sounded good. I've used it on a combo amp with good results as well as acoustic guitar and mandolin with better results. Not blown away, but overall happy with the way it sounds being a two to three hundred dollar mic.
What I really don't like about this mic is how the look of the design and aesthetics of the mic are clearly more important to blue than the functionality. Getting this thing in and out of the shock mount is a bit of a pain as it threads into it. I just know I'm going to mis-thread the thing once and have to spend another 80 bucks to get a replacement. Also, every time you adjust the angle of the shock mount you really have to crank the small thumb screw to get it to stay into place. I find the thing very difficult to lock into place all for the sake of looking attractive. I find nothing less attractive than poor functionality. Which brings me to the pop screen. I've read plenty of reviews claiming the pop screen was useless. I wouldn't know because the screen that came with my mic doesn't fit the mic. I sent an email off to Blue and didn't hear anything for two weeks, in the mean time Amazon shipped a free replacement, but it had the exact same issue. Blue responded to a second email and they said the last batch of screens was bad. Blue is supposed to be shipping me a pop screen "when they become available", so I hope I'll be getting one.
All in all, it's a good sounding mic for the money. I find it to be on par with my ADK A51. It's not the "crown jewel" of my modest mic collection but a different flavor to use. But I find the functionality of the accessories to be cumbersome at best, and unusable at worst.

Korg microKorg XL Analog Modeling Synthesizer with Vocoder (black) Review

Korg microKorg XL Analog Modeling Synthesizer with Vocoder (black)
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
The MicroKorg XL is really a MicroKorg in name only. Whereas the original MicroKorg shared a synth engine with the MS-2000, this one uses the engine found in the R3 and Radius. This is not necessarily a bad thing as those are fine sounding synths, but you'd be better of with a synth like the R3 (which is about $100 more). Although the MicroKorg XL has a cool, faux-vintage look, the construction of the board is pretty shoddy and I doubt it would be good for carting away to gigs or traveling with. It's made from rather cheap, weak feeling plastic unlike the far sturdier R3 or original MicroKorg. Also, while the sound editing is arguably better than the oddball matrix on the original MicroKorg, it pales when compared to the easy editing on a R3. Basically, this is not a bad board soundwise, but you'd be better off saving $100 with an original MicroKorg or putting in an extra $100 for an R3. The MicroKorg XL is not a happy medium, and makes compromises that do not benefit the synth user.

Casio AD-1 Power Supply for SA75 Review

Casio AD-1 Power Supply for SA75
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Amazon's advertising for the Casio AD-1 Power Supply is a little confusing because the transformer appears with its correct model number AD-1 along with text that indicates it's for the Casio SA-75 keyboard. However, above that line of text it also appears as image next to a picture of the Casio SA-76, with a plus sign between them suggesting that they go together. Unfortunately, the jack end of the Casio AD-1 power supply doesn't fit into the DC 9.5 volt port on the back of the SA-76 keyboard, so I couldn't use it.
I contacted the seller and they told me the correct transformer for the Casio SA-76 electronic keyboard won't be available from Casio until December.

Casio CTK900 61 Full-Size Key MIDI Keyboard Review

Casio CTK900 61 Full-Size Key MIDI Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I had the chance to play side by side the Yamaha equivalent of the Casio CTK900 Keyboard, and I own a real piano and also a Technics weighed-keys full size keyboard. Of course, the sound is not the real thing, but it is realistic enough, and very pleasant, as far as the "grand piano voice" is concerned. The stereo effect is definitively a plus.
Now as far as the ease-of-use is concerned, I really prefer the Casio. Even a poor pianist (like me) can get some amazing results, and the "arranger" functions, or "transistion" are as good as was a $ 5000 instrument five years ago. I am impressed, and I was not impressed at all with the compertitors products.
This keybord is not a toy. This is a perfect beginner piano, plus many many hours of fun. The "speed sensitive" keyboard is well balanced and will simulate the weighed keys of a real piano pretty well.

ART USB DUAL PRE PS 2-Channel Preamp with USB Review

ART USB DUAL PRE PS 2-Channel Preamp with USB
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I own the Shure X2U XLR to USB adapter and have used the ART USB Dual Pre 2 Channel Preamp. My preference is for the ART. A review was written, prior to this one, critical of the ART because of the placement of a battery for field recording. This is probably a valid criticism, if your purchase of the ART is for field recording; not plugging into the USB port of a laptop or desktop computer. My evaluation is solely on its ability to quietly drive a professional lo-z microphone into a computer for digital voice recording. And for that, for $99.00 + shipping, you can't beat it. I'm an analog guy by nature and training; working in the broadcast media since 1963 and a licensed broadcast engineer. I've done thousands of voice overs and narrations during the past 4+ decades. I love reel to reel audio tape and simple analog recording, but that's history and I had to acquire gear that would allow me to still think analog, while performing digitally. This ART does the trick, but, for me, it's set up as a preamp into a 2009 model desktop.
Regarding the criticism of battery placement. If that is a problem for field recording, I'd attach an extender to the 9 volt battery connection and attach a battery compartment at the top of the ART.

My son who turned 2 the first of January has been attending a day care center where there is a Casio electric keyboard there. The provider has allowed him to play with the keyboard. Sometimes he plays on the keyboard for 45 minutes to an hour trying to sing, so when I saw that my first thouught was maybe he likes music so why not cultivate it. I purchased a Yamaha 235 for him for Christmasd and this stand with foot pedel. I was surprised of how sturdy it is and the fact that that he can climb up on the stool and play, he pushes all the buttons to change the music and trys to sing. Now everyday when I get home I encourage him to play and we have singalongs, we dont even turn on that stupid TV. I'm LOVING IT. Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner Review

Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This is a very fine tuner that allows you to tune any instrument, electronic or acoustical, "spot on." For the price I really didn't expect such a nice product. However, after reading about two minutes of instruction, I was accurately tuning my mandolin and guitar. It is very intuitive to use, is battery operated which makes it useful for on the road, and has has such practical features as auto turn off after non-use for 20 minutes so you don't kill your batteries should you forget to turn it off.

Click Here to see more reviews about: Korg CA-30 Chromatic Tuner

High accuracy and superb functionality have made Korg chromatic tuners the worldwide favorite. And now, the new Korg CA-30 joins the best-selling CA series of tuners. With even more features, like a pitch reference tone and marks for pure major thirds and minor thirds, the CA-30 digital tuner packs basic functionality and convenient tuning functions into ultra-compact bodies.

Wide Range of Pitch Detection This compact chromatic tuner supports a broad range of C1 (32.70 Hz)-C8 (4186.01 Hz), allowing speedy and high-precision tuning of wind, string, keyboard, and other instruments. This hand held tuner is ideal for tuning even low-register notes containing numerous overtones that are often difficult to tune. A high-sensitivity microphone is built-in to this chromatic tuner, allowing easy and accurate tuning of acoustic instruments such as ukuleles. A separately sold CM-100 contact microphone can also be used to send the vibrations directly to the tuner for even more accurate tuning.
Ultra-compact body with a "Tilt Slit" Although the CA-30 is small, thin, and light, don't let its pocket-sized body fool you. The CA-30 chromatic tuner packs the functionality needed for tuning a wide range of instruments. From studio to stage, tuning is easy and convenient. The back of the unit includes a unique arc-shaped "tilt slit" that lets you insert a plastic card for use as a handy stand.
High-precision LCD Meter The meter section uses an LCD needle, combining the accuracy of an LCD with the easy visibility of a needle, and providing a stable display. Additional visual feedback is provided by LEDs that indicate pitch deviation.
Sound Out In addition to visual tuning via meter, the Korg CA-30 can play reference pitches from its internal speaker (Sound Out) for tuning by ear. Each press of the Sound switch will cycle through the A4-Bb4 notes, commonly used for tuning wind instruments. Alternatively, you can hold down the Sound switch to change the cycle to the semitone intervals from C4 through C5 (one octave), allowing reference pitches for any instrument to be sounded quickly.
Adjustable Calibration The Calibration function (410-480 Hz) of this chromatic tuner supports a wide range of standard pitches, and can be adjusted in 1 Hz steps for accurate and flexible tuning to any song or key. Thanks to the Memory Backup function, the Calibration and reference pitch are remembered even when the power is turned off. (However, these settings will be initialized when the batteries are replaced.)
Auto Power Off Function The power will turn off automatically if the unit is left powered-on for 20 minutes without performing any operation, avoiding unnecessary battery consumption.
Approximately 100 hours of Continuous Use Low-power consumption design allows an amazing 100 hours (approximate) of continuous battery life (A4 continuous input, meter mode, zinc-carbon batteries).
Three Year Warranty Korg tuners and metronomes purchased from a Korg USA authorized dealer now have a three year warranty.

Casio CTK7000 61 Key Portable Keyboard Review

Casio CTK7000 61 Key Portable Keyboard
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I have both the ctk 7000 and the wk-7500 and they each are worth more than the price. Casio has made a vast improvement on the key bed settings. The annoying click of the keys that plagued earlier models is gone. The keyboars is beautiful to look at. The layout of the switches, buttons and drawbars is very funtional and comprehensive. I did like the blue screen on the ctk 5000 but the well lit screen on the newer models is still pleasant to the eyes as arethe blue lights that indicate the instrument nd rhythym choices.
As I said with the wk 7500, the 7000 is not geared towards novice players in that there are no teaching tools of the 'how to play the piano' variety provided. Earlier Casio models have the play along features for beginners so if that's where you are at, try the Lk series. This is a serious workstation. With 16 tracks for recording per song, you can create incredible pieces for performances or personal satisfaction. An sd card (not included) allows you to save your creations for future use, though you can save up to six songs on the keyboard. The tone editor let's you modify any sound to the point where you can creat an jnfinite number of new sounds. The rhythym editor allows you to modify beats and rhythyms and to also create your own beats and rhythyms. The tones are incredibly realistic, rivalling boards that cause three times as much, and as I previously stated, you can edit what you don't like. The keys are touch sensitive but you canturn off the sensitivity for the entire keyboard or adjust the sensitivity for the individual tones. You can record sounds from outside sources and up to 10 minutes. You cannot change the sounds but you can use them in your compositions. On top of this you get a functioning drawbar organ that puts the organs of many high end boards to shame. This keyboard has 48 note polyphony.
The keyboard connects to the internet with a USB cord. There is however no midi connection with another key board. If you have an IPad, you can connect it to the keyboard to run Appss such as Garage band etc... If you are a serious artist, don't let the price of this board fool you. You get more than you pay for.
